In 2021, supermarket chain "Poiesz Supermarkets" realised a new freezer distribution centre near their existing distribution centre in Sneek, The Netherlands.
A "standard air curtain" with internal heating was initially used to maintain temperature in the new freezing room. Given the practical opening time of the sliding freezer door to the new freezer room, the "standard air curtain" turned out to be insufficient. The freezer room became too hot and the evaporators were still full of ice.
Energy saving
To reduce energy losses as much as possible, freezers and anterooms must be properly separated from each other. The energy consumption of such an installation cannot be neglected.
Air In Motion supplied and installed an energetic solution at the beginning of 2024 that both limited the heat load to the new freezing room (approximately 30 kW less heat input) and also created a very efficient moisture separation. The IGLO® Basic Air Door (high-pressure exhaust module) and the AFIM® Dry dehumidifier create a perfect seal between the expedition area and the new freezing room. To reduce the energy consumption of the dehumidifier even further, it is directly equipped with an AFIM® Heat Recovery Unit, making this combination one of the most efficient solutions worldwide.
Given the high transport intensity to and from the new freezer room at Poiesz Supermarkets, this energetic solution has a payback time of less 2 years compared to a "standard air curtain".
