Vice Versa Keeps a 5.5 × 5.5 Metre Freezer Opening Permanently Open with AFIM IGLO® Air Doors
Following the devastating fire that destroyed its distribution centre in May 2024, Vice Versa in Oss, the Netherlands, completed the construction of a state-of-the-art new facility in 2025. One of the most remarkable features of this new warehouse is a 5.5 × 5.5 meter opening that remains open 24 hours a day, 7 days a week—without condensation, frost or ice formation.
This impressive achievement was made possible by Air in Motion's innovative climate separation technology.

Rebuilding After the Fire
After the devastating fire in 2024, Vice Versa took the opportunity to build one of the most modern cold storage facilities in the Netherlands. The new distribution centre was designed with maximum operational efficiency, food safety and sustainability in mind.
A key requirement during the design process was to eliminate delays caused by frequently opening and closing one of the busiest freezer doors in the warehouse.
A 30 m² Opening That Never Closes
The challenge was exceptional.
A 5.5 meter wide and 5.5 meter high opening connects:
- Conditioned dispatch area: +4°C
- Freezer corridor: -19°C
The temperature difference of 23°C normally results in:
- Heavy condensation
- Ice formation
- Slippery floors
- Increased refrigeration load
- Frequent maintenance
- Reduced operational efficiency
Vice Versa wanted to keep this opening permanently accessible for uninterrupted internal transport.
The Air in Motion Solution
Air in Motion designed a complete climate separation system consisting of:
- IGLO® Compact Air Doors
- AFIM Dry 10K Industrial Dehumidifier
The three IGLO Compact Air Doors operate together to create one powerful, high-pressure air barrier across the full width of the opening.
At the same time, the AFIM Dry 10K removes moisture from the circulating air, reducing the dew point to a level where condensation and ice formation simply cannot occur.
The result is a permanently open passage while both climate zones maintain their required operating temperatures.
Proven Performance
Since commissioning, the installation has been operating exactly as intended.
Vice Versa is highly satisfied with the solution and benefits from:
- Permanent 24/7 open passage
- No condensation
- No frost or ice formation
- Improved workplace safety
- Stable product temperatures
- Lower refrigeration load
- Reduced maintenance
- Maximum logistics efficiency
Despite the continuous 23°C temperature difference, the passage remains completely dry and free from ice.
Why This Solution Works
An air door alone cannot completely prevent moisture migration. Moisture entering a freezer environment will eventually condense and freeze. That is why Air in Motion combines its patented IGLO® Air Door Technology with an AFIM Dry industrial dehumidifier.
Together they:
- Minimise air exchange
- Remove moisture before it reaches the freezer
- Maintain a very low dew point
- Prevent condensation and ice formation
- Enable large freezer openings to remain permanently open
This integrated approach delivers reliable climate separation even in the most demanding freezer applications. afim-airdoor.com
