Air Door for controlling temperature and keeping out humidity
Air in Motion makes and sells air-based solutions to separate temperature and humidity, to and from cold stores and freezer rooms. "These are all customer-specific solutions where sustainability is the most important starting point," explains Kris van de Rijt. "With our solution, we offer energy savings and comfort. The other advantages are mainly an added benefit."
Air Door: Energy loss reduction and keeping out humidity
In order to reduce energy losses as much as possible, freezer rooms and front areas should be well separated from each other. "Ideal is a completely closed door, because loss always occurs when the door opens. By means of our air doors we can reduce this loss by 80%. The saving is in particular significant in passages with a lot of transport, and thus much loss occurs." An AFIM Air Door consists of an air jet (or multiple air jets) from top to bottom, which creates an efficient separation at a passage from, for example, a freezer room with a temperature of -25°C to an area with a temperature of +10°C. "On the one hand, the high temperature is kept out and on the other hand the low temperature is kept in. By using an air door, also humidity is kept out of the freezer room," says Kris. "Transport almost always brings humidity into the freezer room, which is totally unwanted. With our air doors we are able to keep out humidity for about 80%."
Kris tells that this solution is especially suitable for companies with a high throughput of products. "For example, companies with a lot of transport between a conditioned front area and a cold store. The doors in such a company are almost always open. With an air door, it is possible to control the conditioned zone. The air door goes into effect as soon as the door opens, and stops when the door closes again. There are even companies that do not have an ordinary door anymore, and where the air door is always in effect." The long life of an air door is, in addition to energy saving, a great advantage, according to Kris. "It functions for about 35,000 operating hours, or an average of 10 to 15 years. Therefore the air door will beat high-speed doors and strip curtains."
Hessing Supervers
Vegetable cutting company Hessing Supervers uses air doors by Air in Motion for many years. The company is literally always in motion and has therefore a very high throughput. "We have a large storage room where fresh vegetables are kept at a temperature of 3.5°C. It is important that the temperature in the storage room remains as constant as possible, but that is quite a challenge when throughout the day forklifts drive in and out from two directions," explains Theo Kuijpers of Hessing Supervers. "By placing an air door on both sides of this cell, the room is almost always closed so that the temperature remains manageable. This improves the quality of the products. Moreover, it saves on maintenance. We do not have damaged doors anymore. Furthermore, it is of course ideal for the drivers because the passage is free." The fact that Hessing Supervers also saves on energy with the choice of air doors is a big plus, according to Theo. "No more precious energy is lost when opening a door. We have also placed an air door in a freezer room where it is -20°C and one in the lock to the exterior door. The indoor temperature at Hessing Supervers is 3.5°C and we want to keep it that way. Even if it is 30°C outside."
